Russian education in the context of international performance
The Export of Education federal project aims to double the number of foreign students in Russia by 2024; to achieve this target, it is essential to raise the prestige of Russian education on the world stage. An analytical report highlighting the place of Russian education in the international context has been presented at the 11th Gaidar Forum.
The report was presented by Mark Agranovich, Director of the Research Center for Education Monitoring and Statistics of the Federal Institute for the Development of Education at RANEPA. The Presidential Academy represents Russia on INES, the largest international education statistics program, which helped analyze a wide range of indicators.
According to Agranovich, the study was not aimed at ranking Russia among other countries – rather, at identifying strategic differences between the Russian and foreign education systems.
The analysis showed that the proportion of people in Russia with one or another form of tertiary education is higher than the global average.
“Education is closely linked to economic development. The higher the proportion of people with tertiary education, the higher the GDP. This characterizes the level of economic development,” said Mark Agranovich.
The presentation of the report was followed by a discussion about ways to improve the level of Russian school and university education, attended by Acting Deputy Minister of Education Viktor Basyuk, Acting Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Marina Borovskaya, Director of RANEPA Federal Institute for the Development of Education Maxim Dulinov and other experts.
Marina Borovskaya said it was essential to pay attention to methodological training of teachers: “In recent years, we have focused too much o research publications, while neglecting the methodological resource. It is imperative to include methodological work in teachers’ individual plans. ”
