Responsible business education is the path to development
On the first day of the 11th Gaidar Forum at the RANEPA, an expert discussion was held on the topic of management education. The discussion was moderated by CEEMAN President Danica Purg. Principles for Responsible Management Education, that is, PRME, is an association of educational institutions that share these principles.
Representatives of six countries, in which the PRME program is actively developing, took part in the discussion. The speakers discussed the achievements of business schools in their countries, development trends, and the main problems that institutions face.
"We want to make business education accessible to everyone," Jean-Francois Fiorina shared his vision. He is the deputy head of the Grenoble Institute where a special program has been created for political refugees and people with limited abilities, which helps everyone get a good education. In addition, the Grenoble Business School takes part in the creation of educational institutions in developing countries.
Project Manager for PRME International Champions Natalya Yanovskaya spoke about the achievements in PRME implementing in Russia. The Institute of Business Studies (IBS) at the RANEPA is the first Russian business school to support the initiative of PRME management education, and already in the academic year 2018–2019, IBS became a PRME champion. To improve the quality of education, a special analytical platform was developed at the institute. A summary spreadsheet, which sets out the principles of PRME, helps to analyze and improve the learning process.
Summing up the session, the moderator of the expert discussion, Danica Purg, asked her colleagues about what needs to be improved in the PRME management education system. All speakers supported the idea that educational institutions implementing the program need to communicate more. Moreover, not only the institutions within the country and in the international arena should communicate, but also the companies, in which graduates can work.
The session was attended by the Chief Executive AMBA and the chairman of the PRME Champions movement, Andrew Main Wilson, the president of Almaty Management University Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, professor of University of North Carolina Wilmington Thomas Simpson.
