Presidents of leading foreign universities will join Gaidar Forum as experts
Over the past ten years, educational issues have been a highlight of each Gaidar Forum at RANEPA, and will be certainly discussed at the upcoming event. On January 15-16, 2020, the leaders of a number of foreign universities, including Ben Nelson, Andrew Wachtel and Georges Haddad, will speak on the sidelines of the 11th Gaidar Forum.
Ben Nelson – the founder, Chairman, and CEO of the Minerva project – is a visionary with a passion for reforming higher education. In 2011, while building the Minerva concept, Nelson was the Executive Chairman of RedBeacon until its sale to Home Depot in 2012. Prior to RedBeacon, Nelson spent more than 10 years at Snapfish, where he helped build the company from a startup to the world’s largest personal publishing service. Serving as CEO from 2005 through 2010, Nelson began his tenure at Snapfish by leading the company’s sale to Hewlett Packard for $300 million.
Andrew Wachtel is Rector of the Narxoz University in Kazakhstan, member of the United States Academy of Sciences. He also leads the Association of American International Colleges and Universities. In 1987, he earned a PhD from the University of California (U. of California, Berkeley) in Slavic Languages and Literature. Mr. Wachtel has worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature at Stanford University for almost five years. Since 1991, he has spent 20 years working at one of the oldest universities in the United States – Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2014, Andrew Wachtel has been advising the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education on improving the quality of higher education. He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications, translations and a dozen books.
Georges Haddad is President of the University of Paris 1 – Pantheon Sorbonne. During his career, Mr. Haddad has served at several French universities: the University of Tours, the University of Paris-Dauphine, the University of Nice as well as Paris 1 – Pantheon Sorbonne. Professor Haddad has founded the He founded the “Marin Mersenne” research laboratory for mathematics, informatics and interdisciplinary applications and is a member of several scientific and educational councils. Professor Haddad’s personal commitment to education and sciences through mathematics, their development and multidisciplinary applications has been rewarded by honorary distinctions such as Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur for Scientific Research and Commander of Palmes Académiques for Education, among others.
