Global healthcare trends were discussed during the Gaidar Forum 2018

Key factors for successful introduction of the best practices in healthcare were the subject of “Global healthcare trends” discussion.

Speakers analyzed possible factors of cooperation of state and business for the realization of the best practices and for balanced budget. Discussion of healthcare questions from G20 agenda 2017 was one of the subjects.

The discussion was opened by Igor Kagramanyan, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy, Federation Council of the Russian Federation, who was also the moderator. “Last years’ trend showing the movement to innovative development, patient-oriented, value-oriented model complies with the best world-wide practices in this sphere”, - the moderator claimed. He also reminded that Russia, according to WHO, is in top-3 on the list of tempo, dynamics and results of combating noninfectious diseases. Besides, healthcare in our country reached new indications. “In 2008 about 60 000 high-technology medical interventions were conducted in Russia. In 2017 this number increased by 15 – about 1 000 000’’, - Igor Kagramanyan added.

Evgeniy Shlyakhto, General Director of Almazov National Medical Research Centre in his speech mentioned main challenges the healthcare of future was to face. In his opinion, today there is not enough qualified specialists, because technologies develop faster than medics master them. He also marked problems of resources limit and lack of modern instruments for analyses. “All of us now I really oriented on the change of medicine paradigm. We want to create medicine oriented on result”, - Evgeniy Shlyakhto said. The expert also distinguished three main trends of the healthcare of future: patient-orientation, individualized analytical biomedicine and technological hyperspecalization. “We must meet the reality. We must change the infrastructure of healthcare, comply with technics in legal sphere”, - Evgeniy Shlyakhto added. – “New technologies create new challenges. A new trend, a new industry is developing now – digital healthcare”. Marwan Akar, Vice-President and Managing Director of MSD Russia, Belarus and Kasakhstan, considers the cooperation of healthcare and administrative sphere to be of a great importance. He marked the tendency of digitizing in medical sphere. The theme of using IT in medicine was continued by Philippe Barrois, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Novartis. “We see digital revolution, consider it to be a great opportunity. Medical records and data in Russia are on the verge of great evolution now, there is a digitalization wave coming”, - Philippe Barrois is sure. – “The number of storage data is increasing exponentially. But what is it useful for? It is valuable as a means to improve the quality of life. Using this data we widen the experience of medics, improve healthcare as a whole”, - the director concluded.

The organizers include the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy (Gaidar Institute) and the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR).
