David Priestland is Professor of Modern History at the University of Oxford. He has published widely on the history of global communism, the history of the Soviet Union, and more recently on the history of market liberalism since the 1980s.
His books include The Red Flag: A History of Communism (2009), which has been translated into a number of languages (including Russian); Stalinism and the Politics of Mobilization (2007) and Merchant, Soldier, Sage: A New History of Power (2012).
He has also written op. ed pieces, historical articles and reviews for a number of newspapers and magazines, including The Guardian, The Financial Times, The New York Times, and The New Statesman.
