Her career has included periods working in international financial institutions, investment banking and consultancy work on macroeconomic policy questions for governments.
During the 1980-90s, Granville worked on consultancy assignments for: the World Bank in Washington DC, the United Nations Development Programme in Gabon, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris, the Ministry of Finance of the Government of the Russian Federation in Moscow (as a member of a team of international economists under the direction of Jeffrey Sachs); the Government of Ukraine in Kyiv in a team directed by Anders Åslund as part of a programme financed by the UK government’s Know-How Fund; the Central Bank of Uzbekisan as part of a programme financed by USAID; the Russian European Centre for Economic Policy (RECEP); she also worked for J P Morgan and for the London think tank Chatham House.
Professor Brigitte Granville is a Trustee of Effective Intervention, a UK charity involved in research-focused projects on infant mortality and primary education in India and West Africa. She is a member of the European Solidarity Manifesto and of various boards.
In 2007, Brigitte was appointed a Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, a decoration awarded by the French government for services to education.
