Trianon Dialogue: the “City of the Future”
Interaction of Russia and France in the line of civil societies was one of topics of the IX Gaidar Forum at the first day. Speakers discussed development of a new platform for cooperation among countries at the "Trianon Dialogue" forum. In 2017 presidents of two countries - Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron - initiated the forum. The Supreme Body of the Trianon Dialogue, the Coordination Council that consists of representatives of various spheres of the Russian and French society, is intended to set directions for the forum's activities. The "City of the Future" was the main issue.
Urban issues, digital world, information and communication technologies, new urban management, challenges and strategies of the territorial community of the "City of the Future" were primary areas of the expert discussion.
Vladimir Mau, the Rector of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, entered into the expert discussion: "All of us actively supported the initiative of the Russia and France Presidents to form the Trianon Dialogue." The Rector thanked the leadership for a mission to form a base line for functioning a "Trianon Dialogue" secretariat. Having determined basic issues of the discussion, Vladimir Mau turned it over to Sylvie Bermann, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France in Russia.
Sylvie Bermann made a point of the topic under consideration and noted: "In one century, urban population grew 10 times faster than population of the planet. Over the years, most of the world's population will live in cities." The society faces serious challenges of urban development. According to the expert opinion, this dialogue should help us together to meet tomorrow's challenges.
Anatoly Torkunov, the Rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), the Co-chairman of the Russian-French forum "Trianon Dialogue" and Pierre Morel, the ambassador, the Co-chairman of the "Trianon Dialogue" Russian-French forum were discussion moderators.
Jean-Louis Cohen, an architect and an architectural historian, followed up on the discussion of the City of the Future development. "Today, cities are typified as a key to problems but not as a trouble spot," the expert believes. Cities continue to evolve due to following questions are the most important: "What is the city of the future? Will the city of the future be sustainable? ». The speaker announced that a digital component, social democracy, urban mobility are key aspects of the evolving cities.
A renovation project in the capital was the key topic of the Sergey Kuznetsov' speech, the Chief Architect of Moscow. The architect raised issues of quality achievement of an urban environment, and also emphasized quality criteria of Moscow including a public space hierarchy (possibility of clear zoning of the urban environment), density of the residential urban environment and workplaces, the real estate value, and an education level. Sergey Kuznetsov also presented urban district projects included in the renovation program and noted importance of creating a multifunctional territory to ensure the high quality of the urban environment.
