The Gaidar Forum started with discussion on public health investments
The first day of the Gaidar Forum - 2018 started with breakfast meeting “Public health investments”. Alexander Ivlev, a managing partner of EY in Russia, was a moderator.
Such questions as healthy life style rules, rise of economics and welfare in connection with increase in costs on social sphere, peculiarities of medicine and health infrastructure development in Russia, technological changes were discussed.
The key topic was public health as the basis of strong economy. Speakers agreed that human capital will be of the highest importance in future. Experts payed special attention to long-term strategy and contribution of social capital to stable development of economy.
Alexander Ivlev determined main topics of the discussion and called on the chancellor of The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir May. His speech was devoted to practical means to improve the quality of human capital as the key part of the country’s development.
“Human capital importance is of no doubt, - he started, - Today, when technology is changing rapidly, and material production is losing its importance, it is an obvious priority”.
Alexey Repic, the president of “Business Russia”, the chairman of “R-Farm” group board of directors, analyzed investment climate in the sphere of health. “We should concentrate on a person’- the expert claimed. Alexey Repic underlined opportunity to attract and hold people creating competitive atmosphere; a system of replication of talent in connection with following human potential realization as factors of our global competitiveness. He also mentioned that the theme of the meeting touches everyone, including those who does not work in the sphere of health.
The discussion was continued by Veter Vermulen, the first director of the Public Polcy in Europe, Middle East and Africa Center of The Coca-Cola Company. He said: «The health of our workers, consumers and society as a whole, is our top priority». He also underlined extreme importance of public health discussions and the necessity to cooperate in order to find right answers.
Andrey Nikitin, the governor of Novgorodskaya oblast, spoke about means to convey public health policy. He shared his experience with the audience. The government of the oblast concentrates on three things: propaganda of healthy lifestyle, digital economy (mostly connected with opportunity to diagnose, accumulation of data and its analysis, and with decision-making) and observation of who the budget funds are spent.
Pavel Kadochnikov, the president of Strategic Development Center, underlined that current tempo of Russia’s economic development is not good enough. In his opinion, the most important means to increase this tempo are investments, operational efficiency and demography.
The discussion conclusion was made by Veronika Skvortzova, the minister of Health of the Russian Federation. She underlined the importance, breadth and value of the chosen topic for each participant.
