Leading international economists to participate in Gaidar Forum at RANEPA
The expert discussions of the 2019 Gaidar Forum will be attended by Professor of Economics at Indiana University (USA) Michael Alekseev; visiting fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution Zia Qureshi; and researcher at PSE World Inequality Lab (WIL) Filip Novokmet.
Dr. Michael Alekseev is an American economist and Professor of Economics at Indiana University with research interests in the areas of comparative economics and economics of transition. A graduate of the Department of Economics at Lomonosov State University in Moscow, he later earned a PhD in Economics from Duke University, USA (1984). In 1984-1992, he taught at the Department of Economics at George Mason University (USA). Since 1991, he also participated in the technical assistance programs to the former Soviet republics. He is an expert and contributor to leading professional journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory, Review of Economics and Statistics, and European Economic Review.
Zia Qureshi, a visiting Senior Fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution and a consultant for several other organizations, will also speak at the Gaidar Forum. Prior to joining the university, Zia Qureshi worked for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for 35 years, represented the World Bank at the G20 forum, and served as executive secretary of the joint Bank-IMF Development Committee. His research covers global economic issues and emerging market economies.
The Gaidar Forum will also be attended by economist Filip Novokmet, who now serves as researcher at the World Inequality Lab at the Paris School of Economics (PSE). Professor Novokmet, PhD in Economics, is interested in Economics of Inequality, Political Economy, and Economic History. He is a co-author of several papers on economic inequality, including From Communism to Capitalism: Private vs. Public Property and Inequality in China and Russia and From Soviets to Oligarchs: Inequality and Property in Russia 1905-2016.
The 10th Gaidar Forum will be held from January 15-17, 2019. World-class experts will discuss the most important socio-economic issues of Russia and the world.
