Economic Cooperation as a Source of Economic Growth in Russia
Gaidar Forum experts have discussed plans for export development, the integration policy, the prospects of the EAEC, and the importance of imports for boosting economic growth.
At the beginning of the discussion, Economic Cooperation as a Source of Economic Growth in Russia, moderator Alexander Knobel, Director of RANEPA Center for International Trade Studies, outlined the main issues. “First of all, it is important to set the task correctly. If we are discussing trade and economic relations with other countries, we also need to talk about using this tool for economic growth,” the expert said.
Mr. Knobel spoke about the importance of expanding exports. This indicator will allow to achieve a 4% economic growth due to increased labor productivity, the expert explained. We will never achieve the desired indicators with inertial development and market. Russia’s problem is the insufficient quantity of goods with a comparative advantage, he added.
The expert pointed out the following steps in achieving growth through exports: simplification of customs procedures, liberalization of currency exchange regulation and control, development of the integration agenda, and elimination of organizational restrictions.
