British experts will take part in 2018 Gaidar Forum
From January 16 to 18, 2018, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) will host the Gaidar Forum. Prominent British experts Francis Maud, and Jonathan Fenby will take part in the event.
The Presidential Academy will host the annual Gaidar Forum, a major annual international expert economic conference, for the ninth time. Leading world experts will address the forum, discussing the key topic, Russia and the World: Values and Virtues.
Head of Francis Maude Associates LLP and former British Minister of State for Trade and Investment (2015-2016) Francis Maud is a British Conservative politician, who served over 25 years on the front bench in the House of Commons, including posts as Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster-General, and Minister of State for Trade and Investment until April 2016.
He initiated the Government's transparency policy and was in charge of overseeing it. This work includes making sure that departments include specific open data commitments in their business plans, regularly publishing open data sets on central and local government spending, senior staff salary details and how the government is performing against objectives.
Francis Maud was also the initiator of stopping inappropriate government spending; reducing losses from fraud, error and debt; and raising money by selling empty buildings and underused properties. This approach saved £3.75 million in 2010-2011, £5.5 million in 2011-2012, and £10 million in 2012-2013.
Blair Sheppard is Global Leader of Strategy and Leadership Development at PwC International. He is also Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus of Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. In 2000, he became the founding CEO and chairman of Duke Corporate Education, which was rated by the leading business journals as the world’s top provider of custom executive education for nine years in a row. Blair was the first recipient of faculty of the year at Fuqua; received the Business Person of the Year award for Education in 2011 (Triangle Business Journal); Eminent Scholar Award, Institute of Finance, Frankfurt University in 2007; and was a Canada Council Doctoral Fellow. Blair received his Doctorate in social psychology from the University of Illinois in 1980 and Masters from the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario) in 1977. Professor Sheppard has advised more than 100 companies and governments in the areas of leadership, corporate strategy, organizational relationships and design, and has published more than 50 books and articles.
Jonathan Fenby, Chairman of the China team and Managing Director for European Political Research at Trusted Sources, will also address the forum this year. He is an associate at the London School of Economics (LSE) and London University's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Former editor of the South China Morning Post, he has written eight books on China, focusing on policy and the politics of the regime, and their impact on the economy
His involvement with Europe dates back 12 years of covering France and Germany for the Economist, the London Times and Reuters. He has written four books on France as well as writing and broadcasting regularly on European affairs for French, German, Swiss, Belgian and US media.
Jonathan Fenby was appointed a Commander of the British Empire in 2000 for services to journalism and has also been made a Knight of both the French Legion of Honor and the French National Order of Merit. He is a member of the advisory boards of China Dialogue and the central bank organization OMFIF.
