Riko Art Collection, which represents Slovenian art in the 20th century
The collection includes more than 300 paintings and sculptures of the most prominent Slovenian artists of the 20th century and present. Riko art collection is distinguished by its innovative approach to obtaining artwork, called the “Paris - Hrovača“ project. All artwork is kept at the Škrabec homestead in the Hrovača village and selected artists can live and work in the apartment with a studio in Paris and, in exchange, donate their artwork for the Riko art collection.
“Škrabčeva domačija” (Skrabec Homestead) museum and cultural center (Slovenia) is homeastead of the family Škrabec in the past and a renowned museum and cultural centre in the present, also nominated for the title European museum of 2004.
In 2003 he co-founded the Foundation of friar Stanislav Škrabec, which awards scholarships to students of the Slovenian language, students of linguistics, students of classical philosophy and Franciscan students irrespective of their studies. Franciscan friar and linguist Stanislav Škrabec is his great grand uncle and in his memory he established the foundation together with the Slovenian Franciscan Province of St. Cross.
Owing to his intense activities in the fields of sponsorship and patronage, Janez Škrabec was depicted in a book by Charles Handy “The New Philanthropist, the New generosity” portraying 23 leading new philanthropists.
